Cream line milk has been something we’ve been interested in for years. With the direction farming is going these days, we decided to take the leap with the hope that we would have the customers to back us. April 2019 was our first run, with Black River Valley Natural, and in October 2020 we expanded to our own processing facility. We started farming with our own cows in 2010 and purchased the farm from Bob’s parents in 2016.
Cummings Farms is family-owned and run by a third-generation dairy farmer, Bob Cummings. His wife, Meghan, works off the farm full-time while Bob runs the farm full time, and together they run the milk business. They have two children Conner (7) and Ella (4).
Our main product is of course our milk: We currently make white milk, chocolate, strawberry, coffee, and maple.
All of our milk is Grade A Whole Cream Line Milk. Cream Line milk differs from the milk you buy at the store by being only pasteurized and not homogenized.
Pasteurization is the process of heating the milk up while homogenizing is the process of mixing the cream or fat into the milk. Homogenization uses high pressure to break down the fat molecules so they fully dissolve in the milk. Some believe this process takes away the health benefits of the milk as well as the rich taste of the milk. When the milk is not homogenized the cream rises to the top and you just have to give the milk a shake before drinking. This is the closest you can get to drinking milk directly from the cow!
We also offer in our farm store a variety of locally made products.
Our maple and coffee milks are made with all local products. Our maple milk is made with Markham Maple Shanty Syrup from Constableville, NY. Our coffee milk is made with local Tug Hill Artisan Roaster coffee from Castorland NY as well as the Markham Maple Shanty maple syrup.
